Each printout costs $25. The Kauai site can be reached at (808) 241-1661. The HCJDC home page is at ag.hawaii.gov/hcjdc. Conviction info is public under HRS § 846-9. Non-conviction info has restricted access.

Kauai County Booking Records Law

Hawaii's open records law sits in HRS Chapter 92F, the Uniform Information Practices Act. The Office of Information Practices oversees how agencies follow it. Under HRS § 92F-12(a)(13), info about people held at a correctional facility must be disclosed to the public. That covers KCCC.

Agencies must reply to a UIPA request within 10 business days. Complex requests can take longer. Some content can be redacted to protect personal privacy or active investigations. Names of victims, social security numbers, and home addresses are common redactions on a Kauai County booking record.

Arrest records that lead to a conviction are kept for life under state retention rules. Arrests with no charge or with a dismissal stay on file at least 5 years. Booking photos are kept with the matching arrest record. Fingerprint cards are held for life.

For older cases, the Hawaii State Archives at ags.hawaii.gov/archives can help researchers pull files that have rolled off the local view. The State Judiciary also keeps court files for older Fifth Circuit cases.

Online Conviction Search for Kauai County

For an online conviction search tied to a Kauai County booking, eCrim is the official tool. The portal pulls from the same HCJDC files as the public access sites.

eCrim only shows convictions. It does not list arrests that did not lead to convictions, federal records, juvenile cases, or pending matters. For broader Kauai County booking data, you need to go back to KPD or the court file.
